Batata Poha is a simple yet flavorful breakfast dish loved across Gujarat. Made with flattened rice, potatoes, and mild spices, it’s quick to prepare and perfect for a healthy, filling start to the day. Whether it’s for guests or your daily breakfast, poha never fails!
Ingredients:
- 1.5 cups poha (flattened rice)
- 1 medium potato, peeled and diced
- 1 chopped onion
- 2 green chilies (slit or chopped)
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 8–10 curry leaves
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp sugar (optional)
- 2 tbsp oil
- Chopped coriander for garnish
- Lemon wedges
Method:
- Rinse poha under water in a colander. Let it rest to drain fully and soften.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and green chilies.
- Add diced potatoes and cook until soft.
- Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
- Sprinkle turmeric and salt. Mix well.
- Add soaked poha and gently mix to combine everything.
- Add sugar if desired and cook for 2–3 minutes on low flame.
- Turn off heat. Garnish with fresh coriander and squeeze lemon before serving.
Tips:
- Use thick poha for better texture; thin poha can turn mushy.
- Add roasted peanuts for crunch and protein.
- Adjust sugar and lemon based on your taste preference.
