Ahmedabad Ring Road

Ahmedabad’s SP Ring Road is going through one of the biggest infrastructure upgrades in the city’s history. The project aims to reduce congestion, improve connectivity, and support the city’s fast-growing real estate and industrial corridors. From 6-lane widening to new flyovers, bridges, and service roads, the transformation will directly impact travel, property prices, and future development across Ahmedabad.

SP Ring Road to Become a 6-Lane Corridor

The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) is upgrading the 76-km SP Ring Road from four lanes to six lanes. The estimated project cost is Rs 2,200 crore and includes six-lane expansion across the entire corridor, new service roads on both sides, smart traffic improvements, and green zones. The project is divided into an eastern stretch of 37 km and a western stretch of 39.25 km. The widening project is expected to significantly improve traffic movement around major growth corridors.

New Flyovers, Bridges and Underpasses

One of the biggest highlights of the SP Ring Road upgrade is the construction of multiple flyovers and underpasses. A total of 34 flyovers and underpasses are expected upon completion, compared to 16 existing structures currently. New bridges are being built at Bakrol, Hathijan, Ramol, and Panjrapol junction. New works are already underway at several junctions with temporary traffic diversions issued recently.

High-Priority Traffic Junctions Identified

A major traffic survey conducted by the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) identified Ahmedabad’s most congested junctions for future flyover development. The key priority junctions include Bhakti Circle on SP Ring Road, Shyamal Crossroads, Memco Junction, Indira Bridge T-Junction, and Delhi Darwaza. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) plans long-term decongestion through flyovers, underpasses, and redesigned traffic systems at these locations.

New Outer Ring Road Parallel to SP Ring Road

AUDA is also planning a new outer ring road parallel to the current SP Ring Road. The planned length is between 100 and 125 km, and it forms part of Ahmedabad’s 2041 Development Plan. It has been designed to accommodate future traffic demands and urban expansion. This new outer corridor is expected to become a major growth driver for township projects, industrial parks, and future residential expansion across the city.

Kalol Connectivity Boost

A new 12-km road link between SP Ring Road and Kalol is currently under construction. The project will provide faster connectivity to North Gujarat and reduce travel time to approximately 5 minutes. The real estate belt around Kalol is also expected to see significant growth as a result. Nearly half the work has already been completed.

Major Areas Benefiting from the Ring Road Upgrade

Several key areas across Ahmedabad are set to benefit from the SP Ring Road upgrade. Shela and Shilaj are expected to see township growth, while South Bopal will witness residential appreciation. Vaishnodevi will gain better connectivity, and the Sanand Corridor is set for an industrial and logistics boost. Naroda and Hathijan will see improved daily mobility, and the GIFT City belt will benefit from faster access to the ring road network.

Real Estate Impact of the Ring Road Development

The SP Ring Road upgrade is expected to increase demand for township projects, commercial hubs, warehousing and logistics facilities, and residential investment corridors. Areas connected to the Ring Road generally witness better appreciation, higher rental demand, faster urbanization, and increased builder activity. Investors and homebuyers looking at long-term value are keeping a close eye on these developing corridors.

Traffic Situation During Construction

During ongoing construction works, temporary diversions are active at several points and some junctions may face short-term congestion. Dust and construction traffic may also increase temporarily in affected areas. However, long-term mobility across the city is expected to improve significantly once the project reaches completion.

Future Outlook: 2026 to 2030

Ahmedabad’s mobility infrastructure is entering a new phase of transformation. The SP Ring Road expansion, ongoing metro growth, new outer ring road planning, expanded flyover network, and improved Dholera and GIFT City connectivity are together shaping the city’s future. Ahmedabad is preparing for sustained urban expansion, smart city growth, higher industrial activity, and increased global investment potential through 2030 and beyond.
