Moong Dal Sheera is a festive, rich dessert made by slow-roasting yellow moong dal in ghee, then cooking with milk and sugar until silky and fragrant. Cardamom and nuts make it luxurious—perfect for prasad or special celebrations.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup yellow moong dal
- 1/2 cup ghee
- 1 cup sugar
- 2.5 cups milk
- 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
- Pinch saffron (optional)
- 2 tbsp chopped nuts (cashew, almond, pistachio)
Method:
- Soak moong dal for at least 1 hour. Drain, blend to a coarse paste.
- Heat ghee in a pan. Add dal paste, roast on low flame, stirring, till golden and aromatic (15–18 min).
- Add hot milk gradually; stir and cook until dal absorbs milk and softens.
- Mix in sugar, cook till mixture thickens and ghee separates.
- Add cardamom, saffron, and nuts. Serve hot, garnished with more nuts.
Tips:
- Roast dal patiently for grainy texture and rich flavor.
- Add a little extra ghee for festive richness.
- Sheera thickens as it cools—serve immediately or reheat with splash of milk.
