Gujarati Thepla for Breakfast – A Spicy Flatbread Delight

Thepla is a staple in every Gujarati household, especially as a quick breakfast or travel snack. Packed with spices, fenugreek, and whole wheat goodness, this dish is not just tasty but healthy too. Let’s learn how to make this delicious traditional Gujarati breakfast!

🧂 Ingredients:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour (ઘઉંનો લોટ)
  • 1/2 cup chopped methi (fenugreek leaves)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (તલ)
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp curd
  • Water as needed
  • 2 tbsp oil (for dough and frying)

👨‍🍳 Method:

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, methi, turmeric, chili powder, coriander, sesame seeds, ginger-garlic paste, and salt.
  2. Add curd and a little water to knead into a soft dough.
  3. Let the dough rest for 10–15 minutes.
  4. Divide into equal-sized balls and roll into thin round theplas.
  5. Heat a tawa and cook each thepla with a bit of oil until golden on both sides.
  6. Serve hot with yogurt, pickle, or chhundo.

  • Add grated lauki (bottle gourd) or carrots for a healthier version.
