Fada ni Khichdi is a wholesome khichdi from coarsely ground wheat (fada/dalia) and moong dal, packed with vegetables and mild spices. Highly nutritious, it’s filling and gentle on the stomach—ideal for all ages.
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup fada (broken wheat/dalia)
- 1/2 cup split moong dal
- 1/2 cup mixed diced vegetables (carrot, beans, peas, potato)
- 1 medium tomato, chopped
- 2 tbsp oil or ghee
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/4 tsp hing
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 5 cups water
Method:
- Wash fada and dal well. Soak 10 minutes, then drain.
- Heat oil/ghee, add cumin, hing; add tomato and vegetables, sauté briefly.
- Add broken wheat, dal, salt, turmeric, chili powder. Stir.
- Add water, close the lid, cook for 4–5 whistles or till everything is soft.
- Mix well, garnish with coriander, and serve warm with kadhi or yogurt.
Tips:
- For gluten free, use rice instead of fada and add more vegetables.
- Squeeze fresh lemon before eating for a tangy twist.
