Dabeli is a spicy, sweet-tart street snack from Kutch featuring a flavor-packed potato filling, crunchy toppings, and pomegranate seeds, stuffed in soft pav buns. Irresistible and bursting with flavor!
Ingredients:
For Filling:
- 3 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 2 tbsp dabeli masala (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 tbsp tamarind-date chutney
- 2 tbsp roasted peanuts
- 2 tbsp pomegranate seeds
- 1 tbsp grated coconut (optional)
- Salt and sugar to taste
For Assembly:
- 4 pav buns
- Soft butter
- Finely chopped onion
- Sev (crunchy chickpea noodles)
- Chopped fresh coriander
- Optional: garlic chutney, green chutney, more tamarind-date chutney
Method:
- Mix mashed potatoes with dabeli masala, salt, sugar, and chutney to taste. Heat a little oil in a pan, add the mixture, and cook for 1–2 minutes.
- Mix in half the peanuts, coconut, pomegranate, and chopped coriander.
- Slice pav buns. Apply butter and toast lightly on a tawa.
- Spread optional chutneys on buns, then fill with a generous spoonful of potato mixture.
- Top with onions, sev, peanuts, pomegranate, and more coriander.
- Serve fresh, warm, and enjoy the burst of flavors!
Tips:
- Adjust the amount of dabeli masala for more/less spice.
- Pomegranate seeds add wonderful freshness.
- For best taste, use buttery soft ladi pav.
